Every year the kids make a new ornament to hang on their tree. They are all fairly inexpensive and I can use a lot of the things I already have in the house. The idea is that when they move out (boo-hoo) they will have some ornaments for their tree. At first glance I was in love with these ornaments. So in love that I took my sewing machine out of the garage and fired it up after many many years. I have become just a teensy bit obsessed with them begging the kids to draw more and more

A few things I figured out along the way. Don’t sew too close to the drawing and don’t cut too close to the stich AND leave some extra material at the top if you plan on sewing your hanger on at the end. I also like the zig-zag stich (middle) best. Make sure you buy some decent fabric pens, with your 40% off coupon of course. I bought the cheapees and they did an ok job. I bought 1/4 yard of a durable canvas fabric at $1.75, that can make about 10 ornaments, and the pre cut felt squares for the back at .29 cents each.

This is also a fun easy ornament. All it is is a mini terracotta pot, at .59 cents, painted green with jewels glued around it. Get a piece of scrap ribbon and feed it through the bell and knot it on the inside of the pot and tie at the top. Put another piece of scrap ribbon on top and walla, a piece of beauty. This makes a great gift all wrapped up in cellophane for a friend in your child’s class, a hostess gift for the family, or a neighbor.

Here are some more ornaments from Christmas past. The first one I think is self explanatory. The second one is a premade wood ornament, spread glue and glitter. The third is a clear plastic ball ornament (2 for $1 at Michael’s), fake snow, mini ornaments hot glue gunned in it. I would love to see some of your favorite handmade ornaments.
